Caught a moment of Lord of the Flies on TV today and it made me think.

Do you read books more than once? We watch movies repeatedly, but how many books have you ever read more than once?

Lord of the Flies is one of them for me. I think I've only read it twice, once just recently. I've read the first 4 Harry Potter books at least twice.

I think Catcher in the Rye must take the cake. I'm certain I've read it at least three or four times.

I can't, off the top of my head, think of any others I've actually read more than once.

I suppose a book is just so much more of a time commitment and requires so much more attention... if I'm going to devote the time I want to explore new worlds. I guess I've never really thought much about it. I do need to read more. One of those things I do really love that I don't think I have time for, meanwhile I'm wasting my time away online, etc. Working on that...

America's Got Talent makes me cry every week. Which... obviously means I'm a complete sap. But, despite all the complete idiots who are surely just looking to get on TV, there is just something so powerful about seeing ordinary people who posses extraordinary and beautiful talents.

I often catch my friends, family, acquaintances, in moments where they just shine. Where they are just being who they are and doing what they love. Things they may take for granted, moments they may take for granted.

Lately I've been putting a lot of thought into who I am. Who I want to be. What makes me me and what makes me happy.

How can I tap into that magic we all have inside of us?

I absolutely MUST move to the sea. Any sea will do. Probably even a Great Lake would suffice, though the waves are just NOT that impressive. Usually.

And frankly, I'm not a very tropical person. I'm thinking Pacific Northwest, or maybe Maine... perhaps even as far South as Virginia. I suppose I'd *settle* for the UK. I mean... in my experience the views from the cliffs on the East coast of Scotland are *okay*. :)

Anyway, sometimes I feel like every day I spend NOT living next to an enormous body of water is a day completely wasted.

On that note... off to Lake Michigan for the briefest of trips this weekend!

Ugh. I just witnessed an epic display of humanity and nature. I'm left feeling a bit nauseated and a bit heartwarmed. Maybe just a bit numb.

I was walking home from near the Capitol, along Grand when I came across a lady and a gentleman who were trying to keep a family of ducks out of traffic along their walk to the river. The gentleman had his eye on the mother and two babies while the lady was trying to wrangle a third duckling who had fallen behind. She was afraid to pick him up because she was afraid the mother would then disown him.

The man disappeared for a bit (later coming back with a box, hoping to collect the babes and get them to safety) so I blocked traffic for the Mom and two of the little ones while they crossed Grand. Looking back... that was probably a mistake. I should have herded them along the west side of the street on the sidewalk until we past the Accident Fund/BWL construction.

It all happened so fast... excitement that the other lady was scurrying towards us with the third baby in hand, confusion as I looked down and saw only one baby at my feet, horror as an enormous hawk swept right past my face with a forth baby I didn't even know existed in his talons, dismay as we realized that now all three living babies had hidden under the cement blocks supporting the construction fence completely out of reach, and total failure as the mother duck panicked and flew away... doubtedly to ever be seen again.

The hawk sat perched on a street light right across the road from us. He mockingly tore the feathers from his prey and spat them down at us. The onlookers gasped, and eventually wandered away. I was left on my hands and knees, sadly peering under the cement blocks, knowing the babies were safe for now, but would never make it to the river.

I was snapped back to reality by the angry yelling of the other lady, "Get out of here, you!" I looked up to see the massive hawk with his gigantic talons perched right next to me on the fence. We scared him away (not before I got a picture) but still... if the babies emerge from their cave, they will be hit by a car, or smooshed by construction equipment. Maybe they'll just starve.

They were the sweetest little things you ever saw up close. The number of people who tried to help was amazing. The awe of watching the food chain in action was humbling.

Intense afternoon!

As this may be my last post before leaving the country, I'd just like to state for the record: Ziploc Easy Zipper gallon-sized multi-purpose storage bags are effing SHIT.

I've had at LEAST half the zipper bits fall right off the bag and one of the bags even split along the top seam so it doesn't seal.

Fair warning to the Packard Family: I regrettably foresee the use of your washer/dryer in the near future. At least all my clothes will smell like yummy Bath & Body Works products... *sigh*

I've been carrying around a heavy heart that ached and pined, but the weight has been lifted and I'm feeling all aglow.

I don't know if I mentioned it already, but I have sold some photos for use in the Governmental Affairs office at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids. This is one of the photos they're using.

I also got a large framed print of this photo for Christmas from my mom. It looks great! I'm so pleased. Now I'm even more inspired to get more photos printed for use in my apartment!

So, Fat Club 3 has officially begun. I think we're going to have a pretty good turn out and think they better all watch out because the trophy is coming home!

I'm also working on some Ed-inspired spreadsheets to track my running, which hopefully will help keep me motivating during Fat Club and throughout the rest of the year. Though... my numbers will certainly be less impressive than those of a cyclist, what with the "having to rely on my own body and not lots of fancy equipment" thing.

Unfortunately, with only run down I've had to take a bit of a pause to fend off a cold. I cannot afford to get really sick this time of year! Additionally, I truly believe I might have a broken toe. Perhaps just a chip? But something is definitely wrong with my middle toe on my right foot. Nothing that will hold me back though!

Anyway, I'll keep you posted on the running and on the Fat Club, especially if I'm doing well... because I'm a worse winner than loser!

My new apartment is feeling more and more like home... even if so much of my life is still in boxes. My dream was to make prints of a bunch of my photographs to use as artwork throughout the apartment, but alas... I just haven't been able to make that happen. Nothing screams so loudly "NOT REALLY A HOME!" as blank off-white walls.

It can be a little depressing.

It really takes a monumental effort to get me going sometimes but once I get myself geared up and out the door... I STILL can't manage to put a few longed-for miles on my new running shoes.

So, Monday I will have to make sure I have the correct key for my "athletic center", so on the off chance the mood EVER strikes me again, I can actually work up a sweat.

I have been accused of being a blogslacker by a member of Kicking Against the Pricks. This struck me as a bit odd since there are THREE contributors to that boring piece of crap and yet they have only managed one update since last I posted.

So suck it!

Haha Really I think Jess was just jealous that all of the interesting things I've had to say lately have manifested themselves in the form of email (not to her) instead of blog posts.

The reality of the situation is, I don't really have anything interesting to report. I've been a working fool the last couple weeks in hopes that I am able to pull off a successful Thanksgiving weekend in such a high volume store. Yikes!

I do have one noteworthy thing to report, though I think all my readers probably already know (except for my dad... and I probably should have told him already. oops!). I have secured much lovely wonderful needed time off in the end of February/beginning of March and I have bought a plane ticket to London. Hurrah!

This is very exciting because I love to travel and have been known to trek solo all over the country by plane, train, and automobile... but a transatlantic journey by myself is terribly exciting! I'll be able to check a new country off my To Do list, explore the English countryside, not just London, and the very best part is the excellent company I will have while there! So... there's that.

Now, hopefully I have satisfied the whiney masses and shall go about my slacking.

One of those nights where the more I have in my head, the less I am able to say.

I'm suffering an odd sensation; feeling both intensely connected and completely disconnected... and having a hard time reconciling the two tonight.

Clearly I'm also feeling a bit ambiguous... but I was due for a little of that, wasn't I?

In other news, I have two half days this week in which I desperately hope to find the motivation to get so many details in order. I wish I could magically snap my fingers and find my little red leather arm chair delivered, my "office" decorated, my apartment cleaned, my laundry washed, my bills paid, my groceries bought and neatly put away...

Someone please scrape the snow off my car before 8am tomorrow.

I've made a couple long overdue changes to the blog. I switched from Haloscan to Blogger comments because the Haloscan was inconsistent on archived pages and also because I would never know if someone commented on an older post. But now, should anyone feel like commented on whatever random adventures I had myself involved in years ago... they can! And I will know about it!

And speaking of archives... I added a drop down menu to the right. My old archives page hadn't been updated in about a year and the list was entirely too long to just add to my main page.

I am 100% positive I have a bat living on my balcony.

(Except I'm a littler terrified it might be one of those tiny dinosaurs that gang up on you and eat you alive...)

It's really quite noisy, but I don't mind that so much as the fact that well... it's a bat. And it lives on my balcony. I'm all for bats. They eat bugs. They're wonderful little living things. They actually are kind of like flying hamsters.

However, he's making me afraid to go stand on my porch and enjoy the nice autumnal evening. He's going to fly out and land in my hair.

And before you work yourself up in a rant about how bats are more afraid up us than we are of them and that they don't really fly into people's hair; that it's just an urban legend of sorts... just stop. Because I am one of the few survivors of a near fatal bat attack!

So, I started typing out the whole story of how I *WOKE UP* with a bat struggling to get out of my hair, but it's entirely more entertaining when I tell it in person. (I gesticulate a lot) It's not even worth it. But the point is, about 20 years ago I *DID* have a bat in my hair and it sucked.

Someone come over with a flashlight and find him. And then what? I don't know.

I wish every week I had a 3 day weekend. It was just what I needed.

Friday I took my new shoes for a 3 or 4 mile run. I realized after about a mile just how unsupportive my old shoes had become. The new shoes were wanting very much to support me and hold my legs in proper alignment. My legs, however, didn't seem very fond of this idea and were quite stiff the next day.

I also visited my favorite little transformer then went to Jon and Mel's Halloween party. I've been really disappointed in myself the last couple years. Halloween is one of my very favorite holidays. I love the opportunity to dress up and have fun, but I put so much pressure on myself to come up with something good that sometimes I panic and do nothing at all. Lame.

Saturday was a blur of Bloody Marys, cartwheels, photos, cupcakes and fun. And then napping. Lots and lots of napping.

Today I went for a 4 mile walk (in the aforementioned new shoes) and I feel even stiffer than before. Though, I think now that has more to do with the cartwheels and "round offs" than the walking or running.

Now, if I can just get the apartment cleaned up a bit and get some scheduling work done... I will have had quite a perfect weekend.

Today was my 4-year anniversary with Bath & Body Works!

In that time I've worked my way from a Sales Associate to a Store Manager. I have held a leadership role in all four stores in the Lansing area. This year will be my 5th holiday season with the company, and I'll be spending it in my fourth store! I think next year I'll spend the holidays as the CEO of the company.

I often find that the more upset I am, the more thoughts fly violently around in my head, the more I just want to spill my guts and get everything off my chest... the harder it is for me to type anything at all.

I wish I could see the future. All possible futures. I wish I could see the possible outcomes of my possible actions. I wish my life were a Choose Your Adventure book. Some might argue that it is. That every day we make choices and those choices lead us to the ultimate conclusion of our story. Maybe so, but we don't get the opportunity to say, "I don't like the way the story ended. I want to see the other options. What would have happened if I had turned to page 74 instead?"

Maybe that's not an apt comparison. I guess in these moments what I really want is to read the book backwards. I'd like to find a pleasant outcome, follow the breadcrumbs backward, and see what actions I need to take (or not take) to reach the outcome I seek (or at least one that isn't awful). I guess when I start by choosing one of the possible endings and working backwards, I also have the benefit of knowing what the possible endings are. And what they are not. If I could know for certain that a particular job, or friendship, or event was just not in the cards, I could save a lot of heartache, beating myself up over how my actions may help or hurt the situation. I'd just like to know: looking back, Will I still think something was worth getting upset over? Will I regret letting something slip away? Will I have overreacted? Will I have not reacted at all until it was too late? Did anything I ever do or say make any impact at all?

Did anything I ever type make the least bit of sense to anyone who read it?

I'm frustrated. I'm disappointed. My heart hurts.

Multiple times today I found myself comforting a dear friend of mine who has essentially just been turned loose by a boy she's been dating, a boy who she cares very much about and to whom she was very much unprepared to say goodbye.

I gave her all sorts of wise words, reminding her how special she is and that it isn't the end of the world. I told her the boy is foolish and that this is not a reflection on her awesome self. I told her all many of trite and cliche but necessary things. Things I certainly haven't been able to tell myself this last week.

But I didn't tell her not to be sad, because she can't not be sad. And I told her things will be ok, but that I know that doesn't make it not suck. Because it does suck. Then I told her to give herself 24 to be miserable then go get drunk and make out with a stranger.

I am wise.

Hooray!

I just ran what, quite probably, will be my last race of the 2008 season and boy did I go out with a bang!

I absolutely ran my personal best time (which is an embarassingly slow 34:56ish - official time pending) and didn't die doing it. It was the first time I had ever cracked 35 minutes and I am so proud of myself. I really owe a lot to my new running buddy for encouraging me to expect more out of myself, and especially for waking up early this morning to actually race with me. With his help I knocked easily 45 seconds off my average mile time. I could not have kept that pace without him, his goofy running songs and his horrible stories about the hungry, agile, young, ambidexterous cat who is intelligent enough to write poetry and therefore could certainly figure out how to get the twist-ties off the hamster cages... unless I run fast enough to stop him from having Nachos and Fleuries for lunch. That actually sounds really tasty...

So, yeah! The day is off to a good start. Now I'm looking forward to a bit of a nap, and hopefully a scary movie later.

So, the first time I saw this trailer last January I almost LOST MY MIND. I was geeked about a new spacetacular movie until we got about halfway through the trailer and I realized exactly what was going on. Seriously, I could have cried. I was moved.

I like to bond with my paperback books. I curl back the pages, bending the binding. I fold the corners to mark my spot. I've been known to drop books in my bubble bath.

I do not tend to write in books, or highlight passages. I'm not really opposed to doing that, I just tend not too. I usually just become one with the book... it becomes an extension of me; curled in my hands as I am curled on the couch.

Due to a freak cat food incident in roughly '94, I get extremely squeamish around metal cans with those peel-back tops. For years I was incapable of opening them and had to sheepishly ask for help. I'm over that now, but generally, after the initial crack of the top, I use a spoon to peel it back the rest of the way and pop it off. Don't judge me. I have SCARS.

So, Andy and Beth and I participated in the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk last Saturday.

It's kind of a big deal worldwide event, including prizes and other such excitement. Really though, it was just a fun opportunity to see some other local photographers in action and especially to see everyone's unique take on many of the same subjects. Really cool experience! We're all looking forward to getting together again soon!

I shot both digital AND film that day. Really my first actual roll of film. I liked it. Somewhere along the line though the photos mostly turned out like crap. All I got was a photo CD, so it might not be the negatives, it could just be a poor digitalization job. We'll see.

The photo above was the only film shot I even bothered to upload. It was enhanced a little, but not a ton. It was one of the last photos I took that day, and I hoped it would turn out because I really liked the idea. I walked away telling Andy I had just shot the winning photo for the day.

Little did I know... I had!

I really HATE packing but I do enjoy the little treasures I've found along the way.

It's starting to look empty here now. It's not home anymore. The roomie is already gone... just remnants remain. A week from now I will be completely moved into my new "home" but it will be awhile until it feels like one.

Here are 6 of my many many quirks in no particular order and perhaps no surprise to any of you:

I have a completely irrational and inexplicable fear of dinosaurs. Yes. Dinosaurs. This generally manifests itself in near-paralysis when in the presence of audio-animatronic (though I suppose anymore they're mostly all digital) dinosaurs. I watch Jurassic Park in the same way most people would watch The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

I have an exceptional spacial awareness and corresponding sense of direction and map reading skills. That being said, I have an extremely poor awareness of actual geography. I was probably about 26 years old when I realized that Montana was north of Wyoming and maybe 2 years later it occurred to me that Mt. Everest was NOT in the Alps. But I have embraced my geographical ignorance and have been known to spend HOURS exploring the globe with Google Earth, etc.

One of the few true compulsions I'm really afflicted with: I can only eat my m&ms two at a time - in matching colored pairs. This makes it difficult to eat them in dark movie theaters. When I get down to the bottom of a bag and there are just odds and ends left, I will offer them to whoever I'm with. If there is an even number, I might match the colors up as closely as possible and eat them anyway, but it feels like nails on a chalkboard. Once, when faced with a single m&m, I bit in it half and pretended it was two. I didn't feel good about it.

I consider myself pretty great under pressure. I can think on my feet to solve any problem and make the best of any situation. I'm pretty autonomous and rarely need to reach out for help, especially at work. However, there have been many occasions when, while expressing frustration, feelings of helplessness, vulnerability and uncertainty to various superiors throughout the years, my body's natural reaction to the situation is to tear up and cry. It just comes on so quickly and there is NOTHING I can do about it. Talk about adding insult to injury. It's completely humiliating because I'm your typical emotion bottler and do NOT enjoy showing vulnerability. While most of my closest friends have seen me cry at one point or another, it's not often and usually there is alcohol involved. haha There is just NO reason to break down in front of my boss. I hate it. I guess it just goes to show how passionate I am...

I have an abnormal internal clock. Excessively long circadian rhythms. Once awake, I can easily stay up for 24 hours and if left to my own devices with no alarm clock, I would regularly sleep 12-14 hours a night.

And there is no easy way to say this but... I have one enormous tonsil. Elephantitis of the tonsil maybe? I had my adenoids removed when I was really little, but never my tonsils and every time I go to the doctor for a check-up (or even the dentist) they always freak out and ask me if I'm feeling ok. They're convinced I have tonsillitis. Always. But I don't. One is just huge. You can see it if I open wide. I'll show you. Maybe it's the source of all my power? Hmm....

Ugh. That was exhausting. Even for me, and you all know I like talking about myself. I'm going to tag Matt and Ryan to list even ONE quirk, because I can remember when Kicking Against The Pricks wasn't just Jess's blog.

Because you're all just so full of questions...

The new apartment is slightly more downtown than my current apartment. (Read: even shorter walk to the bar/ballpark)

As for when... I don't know. I have keys now and have until the end of August to vacate this place. I think it'll be all packing parties for the next week or so, then the big move. I have next Thursday through Sunday off... so maybe then?

I might actual hire movers for at least some of the stuff. I have two very heavy dressers and I'm a little worried about my TV.

If anyone is interested in helping, (as I mentioned previously) at this point I could most benefit from someone who is willing to sit on my couch and play video games or watch movies or surf the web or read a book while reminding me every 5 minutes to get back to work packing.

It is scheduled for August 23rd from 9-11am and there will be one here in Lansing as well as a bunch of other cities all around the world. I'm looking forward to meeting some new peeps and perhaps learning a trick or two along the way. Fun times!

You know those days... when you can't help but believe that everything in the universe is connected? That when one door closes, another truly does open? That the universe can sense exactly what you need, not matter how insignificant, and then delivers it?

I've had one of those days.

I've also had one of those days when little battles are won, and through no special effort whatsoever on my part today, but rather through the hard work and vision I deliver and hold others to every day just being recognized and appreciated. Working for recognition and receiving it is great. But being complimented for the things you do without thought, without purpose, without expectation, just because it's who you are... that's something special. I value character over performance and in my line of business that makes me a minority. I hope to find that in the business of life, it makes me a success.

Ramble, ramble.

Anyway, since the world is on my side, I'm also going to go ahead and predict the arrival of Oliver the 6th in the next 22 hours and 22 minutes.

I (presumably) sprained my right ankle 6 weeks ago.

Can you sprain a foot? I'm not really sure how these things work. But to this day the top of my right foot throbs and aches quite unbearably. Just on and off. After a long day, or if I step funny. And often after sitting cross legged for a bit.

Sometimes my third and fourth toes feel a bit numb.

I don't think I sprained my ankle at all, but perhaps have a bit of a stress fracture on the top of my foot?

I have full mobility and have already run a 5k on it and it was fine. I haven't deemed it worthy of a doctor's appointment. But still, I can't help but wonder as it throbs dully for hours on end...

Seriously? It's like I own the world's tiniest puppy. I tried to convince Jon maybe he should freelance as a pet photographer. People pay for crazy things and he does good work.

Plus, Nacho is adorable. This was really his first photo shoot. Fleury gets his picture taken all the time, but Nacho has been too hard to wrangle until recently.

I've also decided airports are perhaps my favorite photo spots. so much going on... people-wise and architecturally.

Anyway, I'm back from my various vacations and had a delightful time. I got to do a lot of relaxing in and around water, frolicking around Walt Disney World, boozing with old friends... all the things I love.

I also borrowed my sisters film camera which should prove to be an interesting adventure, aaaaaannnnd.... may or may not be taking a photography class this coming fall semester. Because... why the hell not, right?

Off to the land of Mickey Mouse and Phi Mu sisters!

I do hate packing more than you can possibly understand though. I have a deep desire to be the jetsetter who can go away for a long weekend with just one carry-on bag, but alas, my neuroses require me to pack for every conceivable possibility. So... I don't travel very lightly, but I am always prepared. And fabulous.

I mean, I am going away for 5 days and I do only have one carry-on sized suitcase, a big ol' LLBean tote/beach bag and my purse. So... it's not all THAT bad. But still... the jetsetter in me shakes her head with disapproval.

Anyway, I'll be back briefly next week before I head up to Ludington for another 5 or so days. Hooray! I'm sure a photo or two will find it's way to flickr while I'm gone since I can upload from my phone, so keep a look out for my adventures. I promised I wouldn't drag my laptop to Orlando, but I can't be expected not to play with my phone... haha

So, today I turned in my WORST 5k race time to date, however, I could not be more proud of myself.

I'm still having a lot of problems with my foot/ankle and it was really a game time decision this morning whether or not I was even going to run or just walk. The course was paved and pretty even, so I decided to give it a shot and I managed just fine. In fact the dull throbbing of my foot took my mind off of any other aches, pains or windedness. Unlike the last couple races when I was hoping to turn in some better times, today my goal was simple: survive.

And I did. Then there was the impressive limping sprint to the finish line... ha!

Really though, the races have become one of few things I have committed to for ME, not for anyone else. It's easy to get out of commitments to yourself. But I haven't. I haven't started a race that I haven't finished, running or jogging all the way. And I haven't missed a month of running weather yet. I was afraid my injury would keep me from reaching my goal this month. And I know myself well enough to know that the first race I let myself walk halfway through or the first month I skip a race all together... it's over.

So anyway: mission completed. ankle swollen up like a watermelon. the end.

So, I was all psyched to explore the inside of this abandoned building (with photo-buddies, of course), until I was told a homeless guy was recently murdered on the property which suddenly made me reevaluate a lot of my photo-safaris.

I don't really think Lansing is all that dangerous, and it's not like I'm skulking around the homeless hideouts all by my cute self in the middle of the night.

Oooh... but today I did see no fewer than 4 (presumably) muskrats along the railroad. I was more worried I might get attacked by one of those than any of the more unsavory characters I saw out enjoying the nice weather.

Fortunately the roomie brought me oj and puffs plus with not so much as a joking protest and i have a vague recollection that he called this morning to cancel our old cable. Good kid.

Also, fortunately, I have had Data here to keep me company. I'm just finishing season 4.

I wonder if I'll sleep tonight?

So, as most of you know, I've joined the roomie in an attempt to document the year photographically. In no way considering myself a photographer, and having neither the skills, knowledge or tools that the roomie has, I set out to use my Year In Pictures as an extension of my blog. A photo journal of 2008, in essence.

And that's is very much what it started out to be. And in many ways, still is.

But it's become a lot more. I've enjoyed unleashing my inner artist again. She's mostly been stored away since my days as an art student at MSU. Even then, I never had the least bit of interest in photography. Of all the art forms to which I have been drawn... photos were just never on the list.

I still have pretty remedial knowledge, but 139 days later, I think I've learned a lot. For starters, I'm learning how to actually use my camera. I'm learning to predict my roomie's critiques. I'm learning what types of photos garner the interest of others. And, more importantly, I'm learning a lot about myself, and my own aesthetic and what it takes for a photo to catch my breath or make my heart race with glee.

And while I enjoy looking at my pretty pictures, what I have enjoyed most is taking them... and all that goes along with that. Suddenly, on my day off, I can't wait to get out of bed and go for a long solitary walk. I've nearly been late for work on multiple occasions because I couldn't stop snapping shots of the clouds. All day long, no matter where I am or what I am doing, I see the world through different eyes. I'm framing shots and looking at colors. I'm taking pictures in my head.

Anyway, I'm afraid this all sounds a bit cheesy. And I know I have a long way to go if I really wanted to take photography seriously, which I doubt would be the eventual result of all this. I also know I tend to obsess about things and sooner or later lose interest when a shiny new hobby comes along. And as I am typing this I can already hear most of you mocking me in that loving way you do.

But I think you all can stand to see me excited about something every now and then rather than going about my humdrum existence, living day to day, bored and uninspired. So, voila!

The good news is everyone is just fine. The bad news is that Oliver the 5th and soon-to-be Ollie the 6th were in a bit of a car accident yesterday. Hilly's home now and all is well. That was a bit of excitement.

Also, I walked Dirtbike for about 2 minutes today and she is less obnoxious than she once was, and she flaunted her belly relentlessly and well... we all know that's how you win me over. I still think she'll eat the baby.

I'm started to get excited for my jaunt down to Orlando. It's only about 8 weeks away. I'm going to need a tan, a bathing suit and a body to go with it by then.

Also, a quick hello to my periodic visitor from Louth, Ireland. Whoever you are. :)

Just thought I'd keep you all updated:

I am now on Disc 3 of Season 2 of ST:TNG. So far my hypothesis has been correct. I have not yet come across an episode I haven't already seen. Most I have seen many many many times. And I love each and every one of them.

I spent my entire day off the other day at my computer doing schedules. Gotta love working all day on your day off, but I should be caught up enough now to NOT have to do that again for awhile. Yeah for enjoying your day off!

There's more I want to unload, but I've been sitting here for like 10 minutes trying to figure out what to say and it's just not coming... so I guess this is neither the time nor place. I'm being incredibly silly about it anyway, I assure you.

Well, today I'm proud to say I completed my 14th 5k race.

This marks the official start to my third season as a runner, and while my run was unimpressive to most I'm always still amazed I finished at all. By no means my best time, but much better than I actually thought I had done when I crossed the finish. 37:34, I believe, which is about average for me and timed races.

But I'm also especially proud to have once again captained a great team of co-workers from across our district. We nearly doubled the size of our team from 2 years ago! Our fundraising didn't go quite as well this year. We're still a little less than $200 from our team goal, but we have until the end of May to input all of our donations, and I'm confident we can still do it.

Overall, I think it was a success on all fronts. Even if I am a little beat and in need of a nap or a full body massage. Or both. Either way.

Hooray! It's that magical time of year when it occurs to me I have some vacation time to use up over the next 6 months or so.

So far we're looking at a trip to the most magical place on earth to visit both Mickey, and some of the Phi Mu Dreamgirls, the annual camping trip at Ludington State Park, and FINALLY a trip to Colorado to visit the soon to NOT be Wysocki. However, because of weekends, that still leaves me with like 11 days of vacation time!

Who wants to go to Oktoberfest!? Come on... I guarantee it'll be the time of your life! Or maybe I could just go BACK down to Orlando? Food & Wine Festival at EPCOT, anyone? Ooooo... Vegas? Yeah? Come on...

As you may know, if you pay any attention, I've been in a bit of a blah, frazzled... slump lately. I don't really know why, just a reeeaaalllllly long case of "The Mondays", I think.

Anyway, this has been a good week. Some things that were up in the air have worked themselves out in just the greatest of ways, and other things that were up in the air remain so, but I'm really ok with where it all stands at this moment in time. I was indirectly criticized for things that I am very proud of and will defend to the end, and that criticism just made feel better about myself... and sorry for others. I accomplished geeky secret missions with the help of my partner in crime. I got to partake in some of my favorite activities with some of my favorite minions. And lots of insanely silly things have made me smile and blush and giggle an almost inappropriate amount.

So, even if this isn't the end of the blahs... cheers to all the good bits that get me through.

Those of you who share a passion for the love of my life, Samuel Adams, be advised: Due to the blunders of a third party bottle distributor, there is a voluntary recall on bottle bearing a specific mark around the bottom. The beer's not bad, but you may also be drinking glass shards, so you may want to check into that. I definitely have 4 recalled bottles in my posession, though I probably tend to keep significantly more Sam on hand than the rest of you.

For more years than I can even remember, I have been longing to have my own ST:TNG library. Sadly, I just couldn't really afford to lay down about a grand for the entire series.

The good news? My roommate is both cheap (er, frugal?) and thoughtful. And thanks to him I managed to save about 75% on the new love of my life. Hooray!

Now if this potential cold that's been knocking on my door could just lay off 'til I can have my own comfy-couch-big-tv-all-day-Datathon...

I can tell that spring really is finally here... even if there is still snow on the ground.

I can feel it in my soul. And the spring cleaning has begun. I've been trying to weed out the junk and make room for the things that truly make me happy. Toss out all the excuses and clutter so I can even begin to prioritize the important things.

And of course I mean this literally and figuratively.

I'm a very "live in the moment" instant gratification kind of girl. I have a stock pile of memories and life experiences to prove it. But with that comes a car that has needed an oil change for like 9 months, work that piles up and causes stress and anxiety, and an overwhelming sense that I am truly just living day to day with no real sense of purpose.

But spring is here. And the sun. And runs through downtown. And a clean bathroom... (It's the little things.)

So, today I feel good. But I still have decisions to make about tomorrow.

So... I've been too lazy to change my settings so the AIM Dashboard web page doesn't pop up every time I open AIM. Well, today the big headline was "Must Have Shoes For Spring!" which, surprise to no one, made me click right away.

First of 18 hip spring footwear trends? Ms. Reese Witherspoon donning her bright purple pumps, thank you very much.

Some of you scoffed when I brought mine home a month ago, but I knew I was the cool kid on the block.

Now if only the weather would actually act like spring... It's hard to rock out in purple stilettos when there's snow on the ground.
